Planning a Research Visit

If you haven't used the research facilities at the Eva Brook Donly Museum & Archives, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your visit. It will help our volunteers to assist you and allow you to get the most out of your time with us.

Our Hours

Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4:30pm

Saturdays and other times by appointment -call 426-1583 or email [email protected] to make arrangements.

The use of the research facilities is free to members of the Norfolk Historical Society; research admission for non-members is $10 per day. Volunteer assistance is included.

When you visit:

  • Bring along as much information on the family members or persons you are researching as possible.
  • Information should include relevant dates (birth, marriage, death) if known, names of other family members, places in Norfolk where the person may have lived, etc.
  • Provide any sources that you have already checked for information; this will prevent staff from searching for information you already know.
  • Try to focus on a single individual or family line and go from there.
  • If you are seeking information on a particular property, make sure you can provide the municipal address and concession/lot and plan number.
  • If you are coming from out of town, it may be helpful to call or email us in advance with any specific information that you are looking for so that staff can have any relevant documents ready.
  • Check out this website for various indexes of vital records and other information that we hold.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the Archives, however, we are surrounded by several lovely restaurants and a Tim Hortons. Feel free to leave for lunch or a coffee break and return to continue with your research after you've recharged.
  • If you plan on staying a couple of days in lovely Norfolk County, check out our page Planning Your Stay for more information about activities, accommodations, and restaurants.
