Over the years our volunteers have eagerly adopted each technology advance
to record Norfolk's history, artefacts, genealogy and development. Microfilm,
fax machines, desktop publishing, and the Internet were all the latest thing
in their day. And now there's digital video.
Of course, like many others, we dabbled in video years ago when VHS tape cassettes were the distribution medium of choice. But back then the medium was bulky, editing was prohibitatively expensive and difficult, and the resulting output met only minimum quality standards. All that changed a few years ago when video recording, editing and production went digital. Today we can produce a quality product at reasonable cost. The significant investment is in time and effort, which is freely provided by our volunteers. Today the bulk of our visual inputs are from digital camcorders, digital still cameras and scanners. Those inputs are compiled on personal computers -- the same personal computers that record our videos to DVD, print labels for those DVDs, and upload condensed versions to our web site.
