Planning a Research Visit?
If you haven't used the research facilities at the Eva Brook Donly Museum & Archives, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your visit. It will help our volunteers to assist you and allow you to get the most out of th time you spend there.
Our Hours
Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4:30pm
Saturdays and other times by appointment -call 426-1583 or emial [email protected] to make arrangements.
The use of the research facilities is free to members of the Norfolk Historical Society;research admission for non-members is $10 per day. Volunteer assistance is included.
When you visit:
- Bring along as much information on the family members or persons you are researching as possible.
- Information should include relevant dates (birth, marriage, death) if known, names of other family members, places in Norfolk where the person may have lived, etc.
- Provide any sources that you have alreay checked for information; this will prevent staff from searching from information you already know.
- Try to focus on a single individual or family line and go from there.
- If you are seeking informaton on a particular property, make sure you can provide the municipal address and concession/lot and plan number.
- If you are coming form out of town, it may be helpful to call or email us in advance with any specific information that you are looking for so that staff can hav any relevant documents ready.
- Check out this website for various indexes of vital records and other information that we hold.
- Food and drink are not allowed in the Archives, however, we are surrounded by several lovely restaurants and a Tim Hortons. Feel free to leave for lunch or a coffee break and return to continue with your research after you've recharged.
Photocopy charges
There are a variety of methods in which you can obtain documents from our archives.
- There is a .25 cent per page
- Copies from the computer .50 cents per page
- You can save images from our microfilm to a memory stick at no charge.
- You can bring your own jumpstick to save images from our microfilm readers to avoid these charges.
- Oversize copies such as 11 x 14 (eg. maps) .50cents per page
Use of Camera
There is no charge for the use of a camera for any documents or books in our Research Room. However, for pictures of our Norfolk County Registry Books (land/wills) and because of their frail nature, there is a $5.00 charge per document.
